COMMERCIAL PROJECTS
Woodkrest's
reputation for excellence, creativity, and dedication has brought many
exciting commercial projects seeking to build something that is not deemed
ordinary but extraordinary. Woodkrest has had the privilege of working on golf course projects, corporate lodges, resort clubhouses, resort condos, hunting and fishing lodges, public pavilions, retreat centers, and auto showrooms across the country.
MIRIMICHI LAKES GOLF FORMERLY KNOWN AS BIG CREEK GOLF COURSE MILLINGTON, TN The
golf course bought by Justin Timberlake and his parents, Paul and Lynn
Harless, is one such project. Big Creek Golf Course, Millington, TN.,
now known as Mirimichi Lakes, was bought prior to a public auction by
Justin and his parents, to bring world class golf to the Memphis area.
Big Creek, now Mirimichi Lakes, was a public course that had gone
without proper maintenence for many years, but it was also the first
course Justin ever played on with Paul Harless, his father, and it also
served as the site of Paul and Lynn's wedding, therefore there was a
strong bond of love for this course.
Woodkrest was
chosen by the new owners, Justin Timberlake and his parents, Lynn Harless and
Paul Harless, to be the Master Designer for the golf course club house,
formerly known as Big Creek Golf, but recently renamed as Mirimichi
Lakes. The course was bought during the last minutes prior to being
placed on the auction block with aspirations of turning the course into a world
class golf destination. Justin's first golf experience was at Big Creek, which
was also the site of Paul and Lynn's wedding, ensuing a nostalgic connection
for the family.
Big Creek
was originally built with many shortcuts for either budgetary reasons or lack
of construction knowledge and had long been neglected inside the existing
clubhouse and outside on the course. After intense inspections it was
determined that major renovations would cost more than new construction on the
clubhouse and the course needed a complete update as
well.
The Big
Creek clubhouse was to be demolished for the new clubhouse for Mirimichi Lakes
to be built in the timber/post & beam lodge style that Woodkrest has been
creating since the early 1980's. The new name, Mirimichi is Native American
Indian meaning, " place of happy retreat", as a tribute to Justin's
Native American heritage.
Justin's strong commitment to
environmental stewardship in the "Green" building movement, as well
as life, has directed the Big Creek/Mirimichi project to be a USGBC (United States Green Building
Council) LEED (Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design) project as a LEED NC 2.2 Platinum
rating. Woodkrest staff member,Teresa Kress,is the LEED AP
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) for the
project which intends to implement many resourceful measures creating an
inspiring position that other projects will strive to reach.
